Plot:-

The plot of this film connects with its predecessor. For more information on the predecessors plot, see Drishyam.

Seven years after the events of Drishyam, Vijay Salgaonkar and his family are leading a peaceful existence. Vijay has accomplished his dream of opening up a movie theatre and is producing a movie of his own with famous screenwriter Murad Ali. Vijay's elder daughter Anju, suffers from PTSD over her part in Sam's murder and has frequent episodes of epilepsy. Jealous of the families rise in wealth, many locals have resorted to spreading rumors about Anju being in a relationship with Sam, much to Nandini's distress. Nandini forms a close bond with her friendly neighbor Jenny, a government clerk, who is constantly abused by her alcoholic husband Shiv, a real estate broker.

Tarun Ahlawat, the newly appointed IG, who happens to be a close friend of Meera, reopens the case and enlists the help of PI Vinayak Sawant and former Sub Inspector Gaitonde, who vows to get revenge on Vijay for getting him suspended. Meanwhile, Vijay has an encounter with Sam's father Mahesh, who begs him to disclose the location of Sam's remains. At the same time, Tarun enlists the help of a convict named David, who is released from prison and claims to have seen Vijay leaving the then under-construction police station. He goes to Tarun for money, who in turn summons Meera and Mahesh from London. David divulges what he saw leading to the newly built police station being raided. The police eventually discover a skeleton.

Armed with the discovery of human remains, Tarun summons Vijay's family for questioning. Vijay, Nandini, Anju and Anu manage to maintain their alibis however Meera reveals a voice recording of Nandini confessing to killing Sam, exposing the family. It is also revealed that Jenny and Shiv are in fact married undercover cops who were assigned by Tarun to get information out of Vijay and his family.

Vijay and his family are brought in for further questioning where Gaitonde uses brute force towards Anju causing the latter to have one of her fits. A distraught Vijay falsely confesses to killing Sam. With the police satisfied, the family is let go although Meera demands the whole family be punished.

Vijay is later arrested and placed on trial for Sam's murder. Murad, having learnt of Vijay's arrest, pays a visit to Meera, Mahesh and Tarun. Murad reveals that during one of his business collisions with Vijay, the latter had fabricated a script for a future crime thriller loosely based on Sam's murder. He further reveals the script was turned into a novel though it was published under Murad's name for copyright protection. Vijay pleads not guilty with his lawyer claiming the police used Drishyam's plot as means to incriminate him. Furthermore, the judge reveals the DNA tests conducted on the skeleton do not match Sam's, much to everyone's shock.

Murad divulges that Vijay had created an alternative climax in which the hero, knowing his initial plan might fail, procures the remains of another young man of the same age and sex by befriending a gravedigger of a local cemetery. The hero keeps the body with him for three years before befriending the security guard of a local morgue under the pretext of offering him a role in his upcoming film. The night the remains are excavated from the police station, he would then arrive at the morgue, and the hero would swap the bodies before the DNA analysis takes place.

Vijay is released on bail due to lack of evidence and the police are prohibited from bothering the family. The judge calls Tarun to his chamber and tells him to end all investigations against Vijay and his family as he believes such cases are not new to the system.

Outside the courthouse, Murad finishes narrating Vijay's climax and reveals it has a tail ending in which the hero would have the villain's remains anonymously sent to the bereaved parents. Simultaneously, Vijay has Sam's remains discreetly handed over to Meera and Mahesh.

As Mahesh finishes immersing Sam's ashes, Mahesh persuades Meera to let go of her hostility towards Vijay Salgaonkar as he believes Vijay would do anything to protect his family. Vijay, who was watching from afar, solemnly leaves.
